| Kummerfeld upbeat for FIPP activities in 2009
In a message to FIPP members, Donald Kummerfeld, president and CEO delivered a promise that FIPP will continue to press on with its commitments despite the economic downturn, stating: As we enter 2009, theres a lot of doom and gloom in the air, and few expect things to improve before year end at the earliest. So most magazine companies are cutting costs prudently and hunkering down to survive the recession, however long it lasts. |
In this atmosphere, it would be natural for some to expect FIPP to reduce the scope and pace of our activities. However, I, together with the FIPP Board, believe that would be a big mistake. Now, more than ever, the global magazine industry needs to exhibit strong leadership and initiative. I think you will all agree that it is imperative we collectively illustrate our confidence in our ability to meet the dual challenge of a rapidly changing media marketplace and the current depressed economy. |
Kummerfeld added: Whilst FIPP remains prudent fiscally and is not planning any significant increase in spending, we will continue to focus on our key mission objectives i.e. high level networking with the World Magazine Congress in London; providing a platform for industry leaders to discuss opportunities and challenges; workshops in digital publishing, research, and advertising sales; management training and the development of useful management, database, and online management tools - to name a few.
He thanked members for their continuing support and welcomed their thoughts and ideas on how we may do an even better job for publishers in relevant and meaningful ways during this difficult economic period.
